Milan - August 14, 1925 Safta’s history began with the production of rayon-viscose, a partially man-made fibre obtained from cellulose. This was integrated in
1932 with cellophane production, which became Safta’s major, manufacturing focus until it was discontinued in 1989.
In 1937 cellophane manufacturing was enhanced by introducing a new and pioneering process called printing. Safta was one of the first European manufacturers to start extrusion of polyethylene resin using both the flat die and blown processes.
New coating machines were introduced from the U.S. in
1951 for polythene laminating giving rise to new, heat-resistant and water-proof materials.
Safta then focused on two key
areas to maintain its leading
manufacturing position:
technology and packaging
graphics. As a result, in
1957
Safta’s in-house graphics
department was established.
In 1962
Safta achieved a world-wide
first by inventing an in-line
technique for laminating two
films, whilst printing at the
same time.
In 1976
a new 3- layer lamination
process was introduced: paper,
aluminum and polythene.
In 1980
Safta installed a
solvent recovery plant to reduce
VOC (Volatile Organic Substance)
emissions.
Safta was one of the first
Italian industrial concerns to
be awarded ISO 9002 (1994)
and ISO 14001 certification (1998). |
